As you may be well aware, Convergence provides technology to most of the VAS providers in the regions (as we’re averse (and too marketing challenged) to talk directly to operators. One of our clients are Earthfactor who have a large number of deployed solution in the region with a variety of operators. Normally, most of our VAS clients are technically capable of handling PRI and other solution themselves, with Convergence just providing the hardware and a little hand holding.
However, this particular case was a little difficult. Being a core service, ISDN PRI was deemed unsuitable so a clustered ISUP deployment was needed with multiple STP and multiple SP points. We used Netfors chan_ss7 for it, and the solution was deployed without a hitch with great support from the MTN Afghanistan staff. Initially one PRI was shifted to ISUP, then all calls were shifted to it, while the other server was shifted to ISUP, then cross links were created and using mtp3d cluster, it was a breeze.
